Disability Management Program change
We are pleased to share changes to our Disability Management Program that will better reflect the work being done and help us align with best practices.
Traditionally, Disability Management has focused on preventing and responding to work absence from illness or injury. With Ability Management, the emphasis is an employee’s capacity to contribute, leveraging an employee’s strengths, promoting engagement, and removing barriers to workplace participation. To better reflect these principles, our Disability Management Program will be renamed to Ability Management.
In recent years, we’ve seen changes to the scope of work being done by this team that goes beyond case management. As such, our Disability Case Coordinators will be renamed to Ability Management Officers, which better aligns with the Human Resources Department as a whole. We are in the process of updating existing policies, procedures and documents to reflect the name changes.
Southern Health-Santé Sud sites and programs, as well as affiliate organizations, can expect the same support from this team as we move forward. Future messaging and initiatives will better align with the Ability Management approach.
