Electronic Clinical Record (ECR) Program Update
Electronic Clinical Record (ECR) Program to Focus on Expanding Access to the Electronic Patient Record Provincially
The ECR Program is pleased to announce it will be moving ahead with its 2026-2027 roadmap by expanding access to the Electronic Patient Record (EPR) to all acute care sites across Manitoba. ECR is a province‑wide clinical transformation initiative, guided by provincial clinical and digital governance and supported by coordinated digital systems across Manitoba.
The EPR is Manitoba’s hospital-based, electronic record, which is used to manage patient information and care within hospital visits. Having EPR at all acute sites will support clinicians by providing easier access to clinical information, allowing for improved clinical decision-making, enhanced patient safety, and more coordinated care.
Over the next year, core EPR functionality, including electronic clinical documentation and scanning, will be deployed to all acute care sites across Manitoba. Based on feedback from clinical leadership across the province, the scope has been expanded to include the full suite of existing clinical documentation for inpatient and identified paper-based ambulatory care areas. In addition, the EDIS module will be implemented within the remaining emergency departments.
Extending EPR to all acute care sites represents a significant milestone for healthcare in Manitoba and establishes a strong foundation for the future work of the ECR Program’s goal of establishing a single, interoperable provincial clinical record.
