What is going on with Ethics in Southern Health-Santé Sud?

• The SH-SS Ethics Committee has revised the Ethical Decision-Making Framework and accompanying policy to make it more user friendly, streamlined, and to meet accessibility standards. There is a self-directed learning power point highlighting the revised framework on the StaffNet.
• The “Tracking Ethical Dilemma’s” document has been replaced with an MS Forms, which has a link and QR Code on the last page of the framework (if you wish to choose to submit your ethical discussion). Please note that we understand that ethical discussions occur every day in your areas of work and programs, and this framework is intended to assist in guiding more complex discussions, or when you wish to capture discussions within teams, with patients and families, etc.
• There is also a newly formed provincial ethics committee in which SH-SS has representation. The hope is to have access to provincial resources for assisting in ethical challenges and ongoing education, including access to an ethicist.

• Finally, a resource poster for assisting with ethical dilemmas has been developed and is being printed and will be shared throughout the region in all work areas.
