Southern Health-Santé Sud promotes a safe and healthy workplace for all employees.  An Ability Management Officer can assist managers with procedures to safely return an employee back to work quickly after an illness or injury. The Ability Management Program strives to reasonably accommodate employee’s in the workplace while effectively identifying opportunities for safe and suitable work. The Ability Management Officer will work closely with third-party Insurers such as Workers Compensation Board (WCB), Manitoba Public Insurance (MPI) and Healthcare Employee’s Benefit Manitoba (HEB Manitoba) Disability and Rehabilitation Program (D&R).

The Ability Management processes and policies provide support to managers and employee’s ensuring the organization remains fiscally responsible, while adhering to Canadian Human Rights Act, Workers Compensation Act of Manitoba, and the Employers Duty to Accommodate.
