About the Training

Palliative Care

Palliative Care Coordinator, Shannon Reimer will present: The Palliative Approach, giving attendees the tools to apply palliative care concepts to practice. Including: Basics of Palliative Care, Communication and Last Days/Hours.

Cultural Safety

Indigenous Cultural Safety presentation “Going Home” is an Indigenous perspectives on End of Life and Palliative Care. It emphasizes spirituality and honors the experiences of Elders as they prepare for their return home.

Mary Maytwayashing, Strong Standing Golden Eagle Woman is from Lake Manitoba First Nation, Manitoba aka Dog Creek First Nation. Mary is a Anishinaabe Grandmother who leads Traditional Ceremonies. Mary’s Western educational background is Social Work. Mary continues to live her purpose by honoring and facilitating the teachings and sharing with the people.

Robert Maytwayashing, is Anishinaabae from Lake Manitoba First Nation, is fluent in the language and guided by Elders’ teachings. He is a pipe carrier, sweat lodge keeper, and serves as Indigenous Human Resources Development Officer with the Interlake-Eastern Regional Health Authority, providing Cultural Awareness training for 3,300 staff.

Important Notes:

  • Staff will need get supervisor approval in advance of registering. Complete a Request for Leave (RFL) form and submit include the project code ”ALQ” to allow their department to be reimbursed.
  • Mileage can be claimed through the project by submitting an expense form to access project funds email Katie Asma [email protected].

  • Please arrive 15 minutes early for registration.
  • No registration fee for this session. Participants are advised to bring their own lunch/snacks/refreshments.
  • Note: This is not a mandatory workshop.
