Respirator | N95 Mask Fit Testing
NEW STAFF: will be scheduled for fit testing by their hiring manager/designate.
Respirators: all staff working in residential or health care facilities are required to pass a fit test before wearing a respirator for the first time. Tight-fitting respirators require fit testing every 2 years or sooner if significant face changes occur.
Quantitative N95 Masks: fit testing ensures that the N95 respirator you will be wearing provides an adequate seal and consistent protection. Education and instructions will be provided as well as a card for your records upon successful completion.
Staff should be reminded of the following:
- Please arrive on time for your scheduled appointment.
- Do not eat, drink (other than water), smoke or chew gum for 20 minutes before the respirator fit test.
- Staff must be clean shaven where the respirator seals to the face (as per the CSA Standard) for fit testing or when wearing the respirator. Facial hair will interfere with the respirator’s ability to seal to the face. Please refer to Clean Shaven Requirement for N95 Respirators here.
