16th Annual PHIA & Privacy Week 2025

Theme:  Navigating Privacy in a Connected World: Protecting Information, Building Trust

Previously branded as PHIA Week, this event is set to deliver an engaging and insightful lineup of speakers from the Manitoba Ombudsman’s office, eChart, Digital Shared Services and the Manitoba government’s Access and Privacy Branch.  Participants will gain valuable knowledge and practical tools to enhance their skills in protecting the privacy and confidentiality of personal and personal health information.  The week will conclude with an in-person workshop tailored specifically for privacy officers and delegates, offering case studies and expert advice.

June 16, 2025 – “Manitoba Ombudsman, Are We There Yet? How to Make Decisions Related to Exercising the Rights of Another Person or Unusual Collection, Use of Disclosure Situations

Resource Speaker: Alyson McFetridge 

Alyson McFetridge is one of the Senior Investigators with the Manitoba Ombudsman’s Access and Privacy Investigations team.  She has investigated complaints under The Freedom of Information and Protection of Privacy Act (FIPPA), The Personal Health Information Act (PHIA), and The Public Interest Disclosure (Whistleblower Protection) Act (PIDA).

Previously, Alyson was a prosecutor with the Manitoba Prosecutions Service. She also has a microcredential in Cybersecurity for Privacy Professionals. Because of this background, Alyson handles many of the more complex investigations, including all prosecutions under PHIA, and provides support on investigations involving cybersecurity and legal analysis.

Alyson has two cats, two nieces, and two nephews. She enjoys reading, playing videos games and spending as much time with her nieces and nephews as possible.
