Toronto Bedside Swallowing Screening Test (TOR-BSST) (PDGH)

An evidence-based screening tool implemented by Southern Health-Santé Sud as part of the stroke strategy. This screening tool is used to determine patients at risk of dysphagia following a CVA or TIA.

Learning Objectives

  • To ensure accuracy and reliability amongst the nurses who will administer the TOR-BSST.
  • To determine if oral intake can be safely initiated (including medications) post CVA.
  • To determine when to refer to a Speech-language Pathologist for complete dysphagia assessment.

Who should attend: nursing staff from medical, rehab & emergency departments in acute care facilities. (Only current staff working in nursing shifts are encouraged to register).

Note to Participants

  • Please arrive 15 minutes early for registration.
  • Handouts will be provided. If you wish to have a snack or refreshment, please bring one with you.
  • Registration is limited, only those registered are able to attend. No registration fee for this session.
  • Registration closes (1) week before the workshop
