Joel Nelson and his wife enjoy taking the family pet for walks in and around Morden.

How long have you worked for Southern Health-Santé Sud? And, in what capacity?
I have worked in Southern Health-Santé Sud (SH-SS) since the fall of 2014, I started as a front line nurse in the ER/SCU. I worked in that role until Dec of 2019, at that time I moved into a Manager positions with ER/SCU, Dialysis, ACC and Respiratory Therapy as part of my portfolio.

Are you from Manitoba?
I grew up in Saskatchewan, but I have spent most of my adult life living in Manitoba, with the exception of a four year period when I lived in Hawaii.

What is your favorite thing about living and working in rural Manitoba?
One of my favorite things to do in Southern Manitoba is to get out in nature. Spending time hiking, golfing, camping and every once in a while getting out and fishing.

What do you do for fun in the Morden/Winkler area?
My wife and I enjoy taking our dog for walks at the research station and Morden park. We have 2 fantastic golf courses, great cross country skiing and a wonderful network of hiking trails in the area.

What are you most excited about in regards to the opening of the new inpatient unit and community services at Boundary Trails Health Centre?
The thing that I am most excited about is the opportunity to be a part of providing better health care to our community. The expansion will bring new programs and increase the services we already have. I am so proud to be a part of what BTHC stands for, we are community minded and committed to providing the best care possible.

Healthier people. Healthier communities. Thriving together.
