The Misericordia provincial Sleep Disorder Centre is introducing a new referral form and new fax number for inpatients sleep studies.

Effective November 5, 2025, all referrals for inpatient sleep studies will be assessed and triaged the day they are received. If it is determined that a patient requires an inpatient sleep study, an appointment will be confirmed with the referring site based on the earliest available date. Please refer to the inpatient process flow diagram for process guidance.
Summary of changes:

1. Dedicated Fax number: 204-788-8033
2. Referral document is consolidated to one page
3. Patients must be medically stable at the time of referral
4. Follow-up consultation / triage for the referral is initiated by the referring physician
5. A study date, if appropriate, is confirmed the same day as the referral is received

These changes being are implemented to improve the timeliness of inpatient sleep studies and reduce the subsequent length of stay for patients in hospital.

Note: Referring hospitals are responsible for coordinating transport, health care aide or nurse escorts when required for the inpatient study.
