Digital Shared Services is excited to announce the continued upgrade of our email system as part of an organization-wide project to enhance communication tools and support our shift to modern, cloud-based services.

This change involves migrating all mailboxes in the Southern Health-Santé Sud to Microsoft Exchange Online (EXO), a secure, cloud-hosted version of Outlook that allows for easier access, improved reliability, and better integration with modern Microsoft tools, such as Teams.

Desktop users will notice minimal cosmetic changes within Outlook once migrated to EXO, but there will be changes to mobile use. On mobile devices, users will no longer be able to use their phone’s generic email application, they will have to use the Microsoft Outlook mobile app. Additionally, any remote access will be protected by Microsoft Multi-Factor Authentication (MFA) for added protection.

EXO Benefits

• Improved Access: EXO will bring all Manitoba Health Authorities onto the same email system, allowing users to securely check their email, calendar, and contacts more effectively.
• Stronger Security: Multi-Factor Authentication (MFA) for remote access will help protect user information and reduce cybersecurity risks.
• Better Integration: Improved performance and compatibility with Outlook, Teams, and other modern Microsoft applications. Improvements to cross regional free-busy search functions and shared global address book.
• Future-Ready: Supports long-term modernization and collaboration goals for Shared Health.
