Health care is an ever-evolving field that requires an openness to adopt lifelong learning to practice safely and competently.
Staff at all levels are presented with:

Southern Health-Santé Sud is committed to supporting staff with training and development opportunities to assist them in performing their present jobs and to prepare them for handling additional responsibilities.
Uncertified Health Care Aide Education Opportunities
Micro-credential Course
A 7-day course with Red River College Polytechnic – this program includes 5 days of independent theory learning plus 2 days in-person lab at a RRC Polytechnic location.
Eligibility to register for the Micro-Credential Course includes:
- applicants must be employed with Southern Health-Santé Sud as:
- an Uncertified Health Care Aide in a long term care facility or home care; and
- hold either a term, permanent or casual position; and
- support from management (employees must have their manager’s approval prior to filling out this Expression of Interest Form).
Upon successful completion of the Micro-credential course, individuals will still be classified as an Uncertified Health Care Aide.
Individuals are encouraged to complete 300 hours as an Uncertified Health Care Aide after which they may enroll in the Uncertified Health Care Aide Bridging Program (see below).
Uncertified Health Care Aide – Bridging Program
Consider becoming certified as a Health Care Aide!
In as short as 24 weeks of part-time, independent study, you can further expand your knowledge and skills by completing the Uncertified Health Care Aide Bridging Program. Employees participating in the Bridging Program can work with their manager to potentially maintain their permanent position (0.4 EFT or higher) while completing the program.
Funding is available for tuition for eligible uncertified health care aides (long term care) and home care attendants to complete this approved training program. Please note that time spent in the training program will be unpaid. Access the application form.
Financial Supports
Interest-free Loans
Interest-free loans are available to existing staff and are considered on an individual basis. Financial contribution may be directed towards an approved recognized course from an acceptable educational institution. Approved expenses are limited to tuition, books and other fees/expenses imposed by the educational institution.

LPN to BN Education Bursary
We are pleased to offer a bursary program to existing staff that are enrolled in the LPN to BN Program. An 8 months return of service commitment with our region is required when receiving a $2 000 bursary.
