Southern Turn-Around Time
Project Status: Complete
In April 2013 a Black Belt Lean Project was initiated at the regional centres to focus on improvement opportunities within Health Records related to the turn-around-times of transcribed reports which impacts timely communication for continuing care.
The team’s focus was to implement a process to consistently meet turn-around-time benchmarks for all transcribed reports. To achieve this, the team also needed to address the physician deficiency process impact on meeting these benchmarks and on the blind coding of records, both requiring significant human resources. Fundamental changes were implemented through revision of transcription queues. Standard work processes were used to streamline the physician deficiency processes at the regional centres and to implement electronic monitoring of blind coding across Southern.
