Post-amalgamation, Public Health was functioning with two different processes for responding to CD referrals with two different methods of collecting and tracking data and trying to integrate practice from three different regions (new Medical Officer of Health from a 3rd region). In Fall 2013, a Green Belt Lean Project was initiated to focus on improving workflow and communication for those involved in communicable disease investigation. The team focused on mapping workflows, identifying commonalities and variations, and collecting times from receipt of referral to submission of documentation to MB Health CDC Branch. Our goal was to establish one consistent flow of paperwork that results in submission of documentation to MB Health within a designated timeframe.
